Life is good...

it's funny about glazes. one time i made a glaze that was a nice pale matte yellow (watch out Otto!) but of course i could never replicate it. something to do with the firing. wish they wrote down the ramp schedule over at xiem!

this time around i was trying to make a nice matte gun metal glaze and well...with all the manganese i added, it didn't seem to want to get dark...but i got a great result anyways.

glazing calculation should be a reminder to us all that despite the fine calculation that goes into our work, we might not get what we want...bu the kiln gives us a nice surprise.

and i know i keep saying that pictures are going to come, and if you all don't mind, i'll take some shots with a digital click and shoot. they aren't the best of quality, but i'll get em up!

it surprises me how life can be so much like pottery...not just the centering of the clay which is required to make something, but also the pleasant surprises that come of the kiln despite the hard calculations.

keep my life centered and expect surprises along the way...
plan all you want because it helps, but know it doesn't work the way it's "supposed" to

i hope all is well out there.

Here are those pics of that bowl.

holy bajeezus....

today was so hot! i was firing the kiln and, let me tell you, there is nothing more sadistic than firing a kiln on a hot day! for everybody else, temperatures around socal was around 100F but for me, i was running about 2000F oof!

but tomorrow should be nice! as phil cornelius said before, i'll be opening my treasure box! of course, his "treasure box" is going to a greater bounty than me...but you gotta start somewhere!

i was feeling a bit more functional so i'll share my bowls and plates with you when i get my shots!

take care and watch for earthquakes! yeah it's that kinda weather

oh well...

that was sorely disappointing.... :(

the exhibition was small...

a person i met said that NCECA has become an event for potters to get equipment for cheap (as many vendors have their "Reduced NCECA Prices") and, well, so much for anything else.

i did meet a ole friend, Ehren Tool, who presented. would have liked to spent more time with him, but the road back awaited.

in any case, you can see the pictures i took...oh wait...i didn't take pictures...sorry

i would check out NCECA again sometime in the future...perhaps maybe if they stopped into the Pasadena Convention Center...i might check it out then...

it's spring break y'all...

at 30 i'm still excited about spring break...
but unlike in my youth, i have spent most of this break sitting in front of my potters wheel making plates and bowls...

but today i'm heading of to AZ to catch the NCECA (National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts) Annual Conference. Never been...so i'm going!

should be interesting
