b-day gift ideas...

pair of linen pants
elephant ear sponges...

(to be continued)

whole again...

so today i went to retrieve my bag of goodies...
i have my canvas bag (gift from my bro) and my tools...minus a few things . at first i wanted to call and tell her that some of my tools were missing (mainly the sponges - makes sense. the sponges here suck!) but i thought against it. i'm just glad that i have my bag and tools again. leaving her store, i felt like a little boy who had just received the best present in the whole wide world...in a way i guess i did!

whoo-hoo!

Never too late...

My sister in law graduated from her MBA program a few weeks ago. The whole fam-damily was there. It seemed like good times. But I thought I would share a few shots of the family.

Here are my sisters, my brother in the back and my niece both a bit hidden...

My mom, my nephew, my sister and my brother.

Another one of my niece and nephew putting on a fashion show in their new duds...

crunch time..

one month left until the semester is out...
luckily, i'm finished my bisque-firing and just need to glaze. but i'm still experimenting on my glazes. gotta through some test pieces when other people fire. would like to do it my way - which is to just test on my final pieces and see what happens...but alas, my prof wants to see test tiles. oh well.

working on a commission an making mugs in the meanwhile. tally ho!

Sorry mom...

preface:

so when i came to korea i came with a lot of belongings. but one of the most important things i brought was my bag of ceramics tools. my brother had gotten me this kick ass canvas bag to tote my tools around and the tools are those that i have accummulated over 15 yrs. some of them made by special people, but all of them in that bag because i especially selected each one to make the trip with me.

i thought i sent them home with my mom when she came to visit, so when i started up at hong-ik i asked her to find them for me (as she must have put them somewhere safe) and send them to me. but she told me that i never gave them to her for safe-keeping. i asked her to search again and went into a mild depression (well kinda) when they were officially "LOST."

the news:
today was the opening of eyoonshin's tableware store (one of many) and so of course i went. she has one of the artists i worked with when i first came to korea (1st year). you can check out her website (it's linked to this one). it was good to see her because i hadn't seen her for a while and it was also good to see the team of workers that i worked with while i was at her studio. but the big surprise was when she said i had left my bag of goodies at her studio! YES!!! so within the next week i'll have to make a trip down to her studio (couple of hours away) to pick those up!

apology:
Sorry mom for making you search the house for my tools and making you think that you might have misplaced them.

PS...

if anybody can make the LACMA show and take pics of "Glass:Material Matters"...that would totally be awesome

all is well...

this week was a rather productive week. i have finished most of my clay work and have begun glaze experimentation. i'm kinda stressing about this part because of the time required in the kilns...and i have to pay for kiln use. you would think that would be included with the tuition...in fact one may thing that that might be one of the benefits of school. oh well...not in korea.

working on some rather interesting (i hope) plaster glazes. working outside of the cone 10 reduction environment as well (plaster glazes = cone 3) should be pretty interesting. of course i'll post the results. i was also going to post some work in product photos...but i thought against that. but maybe i'll do that later. force me to document my work hehehe

weather was been great as the days have been heating up a bit. today was the first real humid day. but since it was the first, it was just mild. but it also just started dumping rain tonight (WHOOO-HOOO it's monsoon rain!)

life is going well. i plan to be here throughout the summer and take some korean language courses as my writting/reading..and well my overall korean can use some work. maybe i'll take some trips within southeast asia...although...my friend did mention a possible trip to lithuania where there is supposed to be a sweet Int'l Ceramics Assoc (ICA) meeting.

oh a friend of mine has opened a hand-bag store. he makes purses using the fabrics from old hanboks (traditional korean dresses mainly). he asked me to create a hanging wall partition. sounds good! i'll be working on this later this weekend.
pay might not be too great, but i think i can get $200... need to talk a bit more about this with him.

like i said...
all is well...
